The world is on the brink of major war in Ukraine with hostility intensifying by each moment. The Imperialist powers led by America are breaking every brick in the wall to endanger the security of world people and consolidate their hegemony over the world. It is virtually cold war resurrected in another form. The sharpened inter imperialist rivalry has escalated tension at an intensity not scaled since the last world war.
Russia may have been an aggressor in Chechyna or against Muslim countries but here it is America and the Western allies which are principally on the offensive when one takes into consideration that Ukraine falls within the Orbit of NATO.The people of Ukraine have been tormented by the autocratic policies of their ruling party themselves. Russia piling up its army on the border of Ukraine in retaliation to the Western powers encirclement by staging its armed forces at the Ukrainian border is not an anti imperialist defence but an act of aggression. In recent times and now Putin has connived with world imperialism and not countered it, escalating tension of world war.
Russia is an imperialist power and is a contender for world hegemony, sharpening their imperialist interests. Its own economy is facing grave crisis and whipping up nation chauvinism is plan to win credibility of its people. It has supported Palestinian cause or Taliban only to sharpen imperialist contention and given solidarity to no genuine anti imperialist movement. The manner Putin is projecting rearguard action is manifestation of nation seeking supremacy and not confronting imperialism, which is the source of world war. On the other hand Ukraine seeking help from the Western powers is ample proof of its patronising of imperialism.
Sadly today we lack a progressive state in the developed or developing world, with the possible exception of Cuba. Even China exhibits expansionist tendencies and bullies lesser countries.
An invasion of Ukraine must be avoided at any cost which would threaten the fate of entire humanity. Only genuine anti imperialist or revolutionary movements can quell such tendencies and protests should be staged in every corner of the globe exposing how America is the principal enemy, but still there is no justification for a Russian invasion.
A major danger is the alliance of China and Russia who give serious contention to the Western powers and themselves act as a bully towards other nations, abusing territorial rights. They have political and economic with the most reactionary regimes .Putin terms China as the strategic partner of Russia.
Only a genuine revolutionary movement can avert third world war and not inter-nation negotiations. Russian people should be organised to confront nation chauvinism and how such a war would deliver a mortal blow to them. The people of Ukraine should rally against their country subordinating to NATO and America.
Quoting the Communist Party of the Proletariat of Italy “Long prepared by years of war politics, NATO expansion to the east, sanctions and provocations, coups d’etat and local conflicts, rearmament rush and troop deployment on the ground, aggressive nationalism and the training of fascist militias, another conflagration advances to great steps in Europe. War is the continuation of politics by violent means: for the US this policy is called maintaining Yankee dominance in Europe and world hegemony. For Russia, the essence of the pressure on Ukraine concerns the “security guarantees” it wants to obtain, that is, the removal of NATO and its missiles from its borders. The US imperialist superpower is sending troops and weapons to Ukraine, forcing its membership of NATO (so far, 14 former Eastern countries have been incorporated into the Pentagon-led military alliance). Imperialist Russia reiterates that it has no intention of attacking Ukraine; however, it is clear that it is increasing its military presence in the area and in the Baltic. The US is taking advantage of this and, while affirming that “Russia will invade Ukraine”, is pushing the Ukrainian government into military action, thus covering up Kiev’s failure to respect the Minsk agreements. Developments show that the United States is escalating war tension for the following purposes: – fully conquer the regions and countries that were previously under Russian influence and include them in NATO; – encircle Russia militarily, weaken it economically to prevent it from participating as a powerful actor in the imperialist struggle for the division of the world; – to inflict a blow on the trade and energy relations of European countries, primarily Germany, with Russia, including through sanctions to be taken in the event of a conflict; – reaffirm the leadership of the United States by strengthening discipline within NATO, putting in line the countries that have winked at Russia (Turkey, Hungary …); – to confront European countries with a fait accompli and push them against Russia, so as to allow the US to concentrate its forces in Asia-Pacific against social-imperialist China; – create the conditions for the US monopolies of the military-industrial complex to supply more weapons to European countries (F-35 etc.). The US says it wants to work in unison with the EU, but it is clear that there are differences. The bourgeoisie of some European countries does not want to be sacrificed in a US-Russia confrontation. It is equally clear that several European NATO countries, starting with Great Britain, the Netherlands, Poland and the Baltic countries, support the Biden-Blinken plan and are in favour of an escalation of tension. As the dangers of war grow and tensions rise, alignment with US policy will become more evident and will also affect our country, whose bourgeoisie is traditionally subordinate to Washington. The pressures and interference are rapidly increasing. Misinformation, speculation and growing war propaganda are a clear sign of this. Italy is a key country for maintaining US hegemony in Europe. There are hundreds of bases available to US and NATO forces in her territory. In recent years, it has intensified its involvement in war preparations. It has numerous air, naval and land vehicles allocated in Eastern Europe which will be involved in the event of a conflict, with disastrous consequences for the workers and the popular masses. Let us remember that imperialist rivalries and ambitions have already led to a long series of wars around the world which have cost millions of victims in recent years. Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria are tragic examples. Threatening the security of the Italian people are the vassal governments and ministers of the US and the EU, jointly responsible for the ongoing escalation. We denounce and condemn Italian imperialism and military alliances, primarily NATO and the EU. Let us refuse to support the policy of war in any way, to support “our” imperialism, to follow one imperialist power against another. We develop protest in the workplace, in mass associations, in the squares, in the territories. Let’s say stop to war preparations in Ukraine. Enough with arms sales and political and financial support for the Ukrainian regime. Withdrawal of troops sent abroad. Drastic reduction of military expenses in favor of those for health, school and public transport, for stable and safe work, to increase wages reduced by the high cost of living.’
The main demands from the December 17 document, which the Kremlin made public, were the non-extension of NATO, including a guarantee that Ukraine would not be admitted as a member; a return to its borders as agreed upon in the 1997 NATO-Russia agreement; and a guarantee that it would not station missiles in Eastern Europe and withdraw those that already exist.NATO has nuclear missiles stationed in Romania, just 1,000 kilometers away from Moscow. Since the dissolution of the Soviet Union by the Stalinist bureaucracy in 1991, NATO has systematically encircled Russia, with all countries near its borders—with the exceptions of Ukraine and Belarus—now members of the military alliance. (Clara Weiss in “Putin warns US to drag Russia into armed conflict|)
Putin stated that for the US, “Ukraine is just a tool…They can drag Ukraine into NATO, they can deploy their strike weapons and instigate an offensive to retake Donbass or Crimea with military force and drag us into an armed conflict again.”
The imminent war in one of the eastern European countries has seen the comeback of the cold war situation between Russia and the United States for the last few weeks. Both countries show no flexibility in their stand on Ukraine, which has been in the grip of severe cold, surrounded by arms and ammunition, and mostly, the uncertain future.
In comparison to US invasions in the Muslim countries, the approach of the West has been altogether different. There was fast and furious military action in the past without giving any heed to appeals for a peaceful resolution. Even, the concerns of the United Nations or the non-European international community were ignored. It was not only the war fought inside the Muslim countries, the leadership was eliminated and the whole population annihilated.(Nyama Ahmed Majhoor)
Ambassador Nebenzia went on to indict the hypocrisy of the United States and its allies, who criticized Russia’s movement of troops on its own soil, while remaining silent about American military operations all over the world. “The Americans hold the record for having troop presence outside their territory,” he said sarcastically. “American troops, advisers and weapons including nuclear weapons are frequently deployed thousands of kilometers, and we’re not even talking about the fact that the military centers of the US have killed hundreds of thousands of civilians in places where they were supposed to be bringing peace.” .(Patrick Martin in ‘US wants war in Ukraine ,charges Russia at UN debate.)
He cited the routine US use of force against other countries without the authorization of the Security Council and widespread deployment of American military forces around the world: “There is incontrovertible evidence on the internet that there are 750 US bases in more than 80 countries of the world. The overall number deployed of US troops, this is 175,000 troops deployed abroad.”
Despite the blistering indictment of US hypocrisy and lies delivered by its UN ambassador, the Russian government of President Vladimir Putin has no other policy than seeking some sort of accommodation with the imperialist powers, seeking to play off France and Germany against the United States. Representing the interests of the thoroughly corrupt Russian billionaire oligarchs who built their personal fortunes out of the collapse of the Soviet Union, through massive theft of state resources, Putin can make no popular appeal to antiwar sentiment either in the US, Europe, or for that matter, within Ukraine and Russia.
