New Delhi, 7 July: On Wednesday the heart wrenching photograph of the young boy sitting on his grandfather’s blood drenched body who was killed allegedly in cross firing in Sopore district of Kashmir, was widely circulated on social media stating it to be from the attack spot.
The boy was accompanying his grandfather Bashir Ahmed when the latter was killed in north Kashmir’s Sopore town in cross fire between militants and government forces on Wednesday morning.
After the incident a CRPF spokesman said the civilian was killed due to the firing by militants.
“A civilian vehicle which was coming from Sopore to Kupwara was caught in the firing range of terrorists. An old man who was driving the vehicle stopped the car and got down from the vehicle to move away for a safe spot but got killed by terrorists firing. Later the young boy was rescued by SF who took position nearby” said media reports about the incident.
However the claim of police become doubtful when the boy reached his home and said police killed his grandfather.
In several video clips shared on social media the boy can be heard saying ‘police killed him’ referring to his grandfather .
When asked what happened to ‘papa’, which is what he calls his grandfather, AB said “goli mari” (he was shot). By whom, he replied “Police wale ne” (by the police).Video Player00:0000:20

One Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) man was also killed in the militant ambush, while three CRPF men were injured.
However at a press conference in Srinagar, inspector general of police (IGP) Kashmir range, Vijay Kumar rejected the family’s claims about Bashir having been killed by the security forces, calling it totally baseless.
