‘It Ends with Us’ is a contemporary fiction novel written by American author Colleen Hoover. It is the author’s most popular and bestselling novel.
It is narrated from the perspective of the main character, Lily Bloom. Growing up, she witnessed her mother getting physically abused by her father, and blamed her for not leaving him, until she faced a similar situation. She moves to Boston, and gives her life a new start after her father’s death after she graduates. She successfully establishes her own flower shop. She meets Ryle Kincaid, a neurosurgeon, and falls in love with him. She gets married to Ryle, and her flower business takes off. Things are going great, and it all seems too good to be true. When she meets Atlas Corrigan, the first boy she fell in love with when she was 15, everything she has built with Ryle is threatened. She sees a side of Ryle that she could never imagine, and while she is struggling with keeping up with everything going wrong in her life, it is Atlas who helps and supports her.
It Ends with Us provides a deep message. It tells us that no matter what happens in life, if we keep going, things will come to a stable ending. We should ‘just keep swimming’ until we reach the shore.
Colleen Hoover’s writing style is very poetic, and the way she builds her stories makes you want to keep reading. Overall, this book promises a great reading experience. From plot-building to character development, it is masterfully written.
